PostSubject: A Letter Home.   Thu Jun 21, 2012 7:48 pm

The sun faded from in the west as Lemon stood watching the sky darken in the east. It fascinated her, the way night came in to eat up the day, turning light blues and whites to ink black. Like a blanket being pulled over the sky, the distant voice echoed in her mind. Fridge’s talons dug into her shoulder impatiently. She snorted, clicking her tongue for him to wait. The letter, heavy in her hand, pulled her eyes down to look at it.

Grandmother,
Thank you so much for the box of sweets, you really didn’t have to do that. School will be out in a few days and I don’t think my friends and I are going to be able to eat it all. I suppose I could leave it for the house elves. What kind of affect liquored chocolates will have on them, I don’t know. It’s something I’ll have to experiment on with Glass when I get home.
Speaking of home. I have been invited to stay with Charm Prewett, my friend you met at Diagon Alley last spring. Her father, if you’ll remember, is a designer for Nimbus Racing Brooms and one of his designs has been tested and approved for sale by early as next spring! He told Charm that she and I could try them out when school finished. I’d really, really, like to go, but her father said I had to have your permission first. Please let me know by return owl whether or not I can go.

Your loving and most affectionate granddaughter,

She had yet to sign it. Once she did... there would be no turning back. She would most certainly be given permission, of that she had no doubt, but this would be the first time she had outright lied to the beautiful woman who took her in after her father died. She taught Lemon to laugh again, to trust again. She helped to begin the healing from the betrayal of her parents. And, she would give her permission without a seconds thought.
Lemon shrugged off the guilt. This was important. Her only regret was CC and that she would not be coming with her, but she would not back away now.
Signing her name quickly, she ties it to Fridge’s leg. He nips her ear affectionately before gripping her shoulder once more before launching himself into the air. She watches him until he is nothing but a speck against the darkening sky.

“It is done,” she whispers.
