Holidays. What to do ? [ open ]

Valery walks into the Great Hall. She looks around, seeing all of the people in the Hall enthousiastly talking about the holidays. She sighs deeply and makes her way to the Slytherin table. She still didn't know where to go. She sits down and grabs a big cup of tea.

Reed enters the Hall carrying a few pieces of parchment, a quill and an inkwell. He rarely ever took these possessions out of his trunk, but today was an exception. Today he was going to write to his father.
He strode quietly to the Slytherin table, wondering how on Earth he would start his letter. He'd never had a very tight father-son bond with Rennard. Everything he had learned in his childhood he owed to his deceased mother. As for Rennard, to Reed he was only a father figure and nothing more. He remembered all his friends always talking about the great adventures they'd been on with their dads. At those times, Reed just sat quietly, hoping nobody would ask him what marvelous things he had done with his father.
The lack of a father-son relationship would make writing this letter even more difficult. How would he start? Would he talk about the weather? Or perhaps ask him about the summer holidays? Would they be spending them together? He shook his head, dismissing all these ideas. How stupid of you, he thought, feeling slightly embarrassed, you can't even write a letter to your own father.
As he approached the Slytherin table, he noticed Val, already there occupying a spot, with her usual cup of tea.
"Hello Val," he greeted her, setting down his writing equipment, "What is a fine lady like you doing all alone in the Hall?" he grinned, trying to get his mind off what he had come here for.

"Hello Reed." She nods at him. "I'm just sitting and enjoying my cup of tea. Whatw ere you going to write ?" She asks interested.

"As always," he eyes her cup of tea, wondering why she found the bland substance so delightful, "Oh, I was just going to...erm...write a letter to...erm...my father." he finishes his sentence, feeling a bit uneasy.
He takes a seat at the Slytherin table and smooths out the parchement.
Now, where to begin, he thought, stroking his chin.
Dipping his quill into the inkwell, he racked his brains for a way to start this godforsaken letter. He just wanted to get it over with, but it was important, so he couldn't exactly rush it.

"Asd always." She nods. She notices him feeling uneasy, and watches him writing for a few minutes. Then she turns around to look at the people in the Great Hall.

Reed sighed, knowing he couldn't put off writing the letter any longer. If he kept on procrastinating, he'd have no where to go for the summer break.
But what do you write to a person in Azkaban, whom you haven't seen for nearly two years?
He clutched his head, exasperated. The Hall was more quiet than usual, so he didn't have an excuse for delaying his writing. An occasional yell could be heard from the Hufflepuff table, or a quiet snigger sounding from the other end of the Slytherin table. All in all, there were no major distractions; no purple unicorn puking a rainbow in the middle of the Hall.
Taking one last look around himself, hoping someone would come and save him, he placed the tip of his quill on the parchment and began:
Dear Rennard,he grimaced at the dullness of his entry. Scratching out the scrawled words, he tried again:
Dear Father,again, he grimaced. Nothing seemed right. Annoyed, he whipped his wand out from beneath his cloak, and muttering a silent 'incendio' he watched the flames he produced, lick the paper and transform it into nothing but a pile of ashes.

She looks at the flames and raises her eyebrows at Reed. "Don't know what to write ?" She smiles at him. "What is it with your father ?"

He hadn't realized Val was watching him, "Oh, yes, I have a bit of...I guess you could call it writers block." he smiles back at her, trying to cover how uneasy he felt, talking about this topic.
"My father..." he blew the ashes away, avoiding talking about Rennard, "is erm...in a bit of trouble..." he smiled weakly again, trying to seem as cool and calm as possible, but he was really dying on the inside. It was times like these that he hated his father for his past and some of the things he'd done. But he loved him, in some unconditional way, and was always striving to make him proud.

She smiles back, but sees that he doesn't like to talk about it. "A writers block. Must be hard." She winks at him. "Its okay if you don't want to talk about it. You're a Black, right ?" She asks interested.

Glad that she had dropped the subject, he pushed his writing equipment to the side. This could wait, father can't go anywhere anyways he smirked at his little inside joke and turned to Val.
"Yes, I am a Black, from head to toe," he says proudly, smoothing out his robes, "Why do you ask? Do you choose your friends according to their ancestors?" he bit his lip, fearing that he had been too direct with this question.

She laughs. "No, of course not. I was just curious." She thinks about something her grandmother told her once, but she didn't knew what it was. She did remebers that there was a Black and something with the Potters in it. "Wouldn't it be weird if only your head was a Black ?"

"If only my head?" he looked at her slightly confused, " You mean, if I were the only Black in school? Well, of course it would..." he propped his elbows up against the Slytherin table, looking somewhere far off into the distance and smiling, "I come from a long line of Black's. To be the only one would be preposterous. Right now I can name quite a few other students, off the top of my head, who are Blacks as well." Perhaps he was boasting, but he didn't mind. He was never ashamed to tell someone his family name.

She shakes her head. "You said, from head to toe. I ment that it would be weird if only your head was a Black. Never mind." She blushes and sips her tea. bad joke. . "Yes, I know some more Blacks. It is a very Pureblood family, isn't it ?"

"Ah," he looks away from her, but watches her with the corner of his eye, "Erm.. yes, we are quite the Pureblood family, of course with some exceptions..." he paused and muttered inaudibly, "traitors." He reached for a pumpkin juice glass, noticing his mouth was getting quite dry and that he was parched. After quenching his thirst he grinned and added, "You know what they say for us Blacks, Toujours pur" he chuckles and takes another sip of his drink, "Always pure." he winks at Val before continuing to sip the juice, grinning all the while.
