Hex walked into the Hall, a mysterious smile lighting up his face, and a twinkle in his eyes, he had talked with the twins, they were going to do it tonight, the prank. It was kind of like setting off a huge amount of fireworks and loads of other stuff, but no one would suspect that it was the Head Boy himself, he was getting kind of excited by the anticipation but he was patient enough. He froze in his tracks for a moment, and his grey eyes searched the Hall for familiar faces. He found a few and he greeted them jovially, before continuing on his way to his respective table. He sat down at the center of the table.

Though it was still early, Rory couldn't bring himself to be tired. He usually woke up earlier than this thanks to his time difference from home and his usual habit of waking early to work, so really he had slept in. He decided to let James sleep a little longer. The boys had been sneaking aorund again the other night. It made Rory worry, but there was no stopping James' whims, so going with him to protect him if needed was the next best thing. The Irish boy sipped eagerly on a cup of hot chocolate, which he found much more appealing to coffe, and munching idly on some pastry he couldn't even name. Grinning ear to ear, he devoured the treat and drank the sweet liquid. He blinked a few times as he realized someone had sat next to him. He shifted a bit awkwardly to realize it was the head boy. Rory didn't really know the older Gryffindor boy well, and wondered idly if he knew what James and himself had been up to.

He drew his wand and pointed it at a pitcher filled with coffee to the brim, it was a bit far off, he didn't say a word but it levitated directly to him. Nonverbal magic was easy for him now. He poured himself a glass and drank it all down in a matter of seconds, that was when he noticed Rory O'Connor, he nodded at him absently and stayed in his position for a while, not sure of what to do. And then his owl came, dropping a letter in front of him, he watched as Derron flew out again. He stared at the letter.

Rory watched the head boy with interest. Nonverbal? Amazing. Rory couldn't even begin about dreaming about attempting anything like that. He returned the nod in greating to the older student. He gave a friendly smile. His clear blue/green eyes drifted to the letter that fell before them on the table.

Glacier walked in to find the Hall rather empty. Her white blonde hair cascading down her back was shaken out of her face as she looked around to see who was there. A few Ravenclaws hidden by books; a lone Hufflepuff; the Slytherin table was almost completely empty, save for a pair muttering quietly to each other. At the Gryffindor table sat the Head Boy, and yet another Gryffindor Glacier wouldn't care about.
She had done enough watching. It was time to act. Glacier moved to the Gryffindor table and sat down directly in front of the Head Boy, reaching over and snagging an apple out of the fruit bowl. Apples. Smiling at a memory, Glacier fixed her cool blue eyes on the Head Boy staring at his letter, basically ignoring the other boy.
'I do not believe we have been introduced,' Glacier said. 'Glacier Montague. You're the Head Boy; it seems a shame that I have not met you yet. Nor do I know your name.' She took a bite out of her red apple and swallowed before smiling. Glacier's smile didn't quite meet her eyes, the eyes that never wavered from his face.

He smiled back at the boy, though very faintly. He tucked the letter into his pocket for later, he would read it at night, he had enough things to do with the NEWTS and whatnot. He turned to face Glacier Montague. "We haven't." He found it odd that a Slytherin was sitting at the Gryffindor table, but Vine and Ruby had done that. "Almost everyone calls me Hex. And yes, Indeed I am." He said absently, he had no need to tell her his real name. "Er ... Nice to meet you Glacier Montague." He said with courtesy.

A smile pulled at the side of her mouth. 'Hex. Is that what people call you, hmm?' She took another bite, chewing thoughtfully. 'You know, I once knew someone who wouldn't tell me their name either. In fact, I still don't know it,' Glacier added as an afterthought, 'and most likely never will. I'd rather not repeat the experience. What's your real name, Hex?'
Her eyes flickered at the other Gryffindor boy. There was no expression on her face, but her eyes clearly indicated contempt.

The youngest at the little group sent glances between the two uperclassmen. He remained quiet, drinking from his cup a few times awkwardly. "Don' mind me." He said a bit quietly, his Irish accent thick in his words. He shifted a bit awkwardly on his seat under the gaze of the Slytherin girl.

Typical Slytherin. He thought idly, pouring himself another cup of coffee. "Well, it's not that big a secret, so ..." He paused and held the cup to his lips, draining it down. "The name is Thomas, Thomas Selwyn. Almost every seventh year knows my real name but they call me Hex." He said with a shrug. He frowned a bit at the look the girl sent to Rory but he didn't say anything.

Irish, eh? Glacier had spent her childhood growing up in England, but even so, her accent had been influenced by her years spent at Durmstrang. 'Selwyn, a respectable pureblood family.' Glacier nodded as she ate a few bites of her apple quietly. Her eyes flickered towards the Irish boy again. The awkwardness almost made her smile.
'It must be a busy job, being Head Boy,' Glacier eventually said, lightly. 'And the Chamber of Secrets must not be helping. People must be getting a little tense. People react differently to tension. Some lash out.' Glacier tilted her head to the side. 'You haven't been having problems with people ... lashing out, have you?'

Lucifer walked into the great hall. He was hungry and couldn't be bothered to go down into the kitchen. Sauntering through the double doors, he looked around to decide where to sit. An older Slytherin girl was present, the same one who was eyeballing him and Basil the other day. Dragging his eyes across the hall he also saw Hex the head boy. That made him frown. And Rory. When he saw the other boy he began to walk over to the Gryffindor table.

"Indeed it is, my mother is quite proud about this but my father couldn't care less." He said after a pause. He set the glass down again and watched the two of them before responding. "Yeah, it is, with the patrols, studying for NEWTS and my duties, I hardly get time to sleep but I squeeze in a few hours. No, not yet, I haven't but the atmosphere in the castle has changed ... greatly. Before the attacks and the messages on the wall, it was so ... happy." He said with a frown. "Now, everyone is paranoid." He noticed that Lucifer was walking over to their table. "But I'm not paranoid, I'm a pureblood, the thing won't dare attack me. Would it? Hmm ..."

Thomas Selwyn... Rory mentally saved the name. He sipped a bit at his drink, not sure what to do now. It seemed the upperclassmen had forgotten he was even there. Not that Rory wasn't used to that. He heard the footstep's approaching them before he looked up. "Black." He said in greeting, smiling a bit, glad to have something to do other than continue sitting by the seventh years.

His lips twitched slightly. "O'Conner." He took a seat beside Rory and made himself comfortable. "Been a while since I've seen you up and about." He summoned some coffee and toast spread with lemon curd. "Getting into trouble? How has a lady kept you busy?" He glanced over to Rory.

'It would not,' Glacier replied, quietly confident. 'Slytherin's monster, you have to remember. That which is under the control of Slytherin's Heir would not dare attack a pureblood. Unless you're a traitor - which you're not, are you, Selwyn?' Glacier smiled pleasantly. 'It's a shame to hear that about your father, however. Those who are not proud to bear such a name do not deserve to have it.'
She placed her apple core on the table and looked over at the Slytherin newcomer. She made no indication of recognition - in fact, she wasn't even sure if she knew his name. She looked away.

He silently watched Rory and Lucifer, crossing his arms and leaning on the table with his elbow. "I am not a traitor, I'm not exactly a supremacist either. I'm on the middle ground." He said without turning his head to her, simply, the comment about his father kind of angered him but he didn't show it. He kept watching the two of them, saying nothing more.

He looked over at the Slytherin boy next to him idly, nibbling a bit on a sweet. He grinned a bit. Oh yes, he had been out and about. Just not with anyone seeing. He made an exagerated shushing motion after the word trouble, surpress a laugh at looking over at the head boy. He did laugh at the second part. "Lady? I don' thin' so." Not after what he had seen Naida reduce James to.

He raised an eyebrow when Rory flailed around comically. "So you have been causing trouble? How... Gryffindor of you." He sipped his coffee. He saw the older Slytherin glance at him but paid her no mind, it was a lot more fun pulling a lion's tail than another snake. "No ladies? Not even after you ever so gallantly tried to protect them hm? How sad." Taking a bite out of his toast, he washed it down with some coffee.

She smiled at Hex's change in manner. A fence sitter. Ugh. Those annoyed her as well. Either you are true to the ways, or you're a traitor. Glacier was of the opinion that if someone was in the middle, there was always the possibility they would sway to the wrong side. Obviously they didn't care much about their fellow purebloods. Glacier studied Hex for a moment, wondering. Was he the same? Still a Gryffindor, Glacier thought, shooting a look at the red lion.
Their conversation apparently finished, she too looked over at the other two boys.

He made another exagerated expression, this time one of hurt. "Wha's dat 'spose t' mean?" He was having trouble surpressing his grins and giggles. He rolled his eyes a bit. "Ye're 'spose to protect girls, Black. E'eryone knows t'at. I was jus' doin' wha' I was 'spose to."

He looked at Rory with interest. "We are supposed to do that? Why? They are perfectly capable of protecting themselves. Most can protect themselves better than we could ever hope to do. Something about them one day being mothers." He shrugged and finished off his toast and coffee.

He had taken out the letter, not paying attention to anyone, he broke the seal and opened it carefully, like it was something dangerous to handle, he opened it and started reading, oblivious to the rest of the people surrounding him.

He noded, looking the other boy over questioningly. Didn't all people with rich families like the Blacks teach they're children all this stuff to. "Ye jus'... Are!" He insisted. "I's wha' gentlemen do."
