2AM Title Block

Jet stood in the Entrance Hall at the top of the stairs that lead a winding path down to the Slytherin Common Room. He leant against the stone balustrade, his arms folded, one ankle crossed over the other. He supposed he could've tried to find the entrance to Slytherin common rooms and waited there, or sent an owl, or even gotten a younger student to pass a message. This just seemed more... poetic maybe? He was a sucker for that stuff.

Patiently he waited, knowing she'd have to pass by sometime.

Sky slowly made her way down the staircase, her nose stuck in a book. Mumbling to herself as she walked not bothering to pay attention to her surroundings. It was late and most people had retreated to their common rooms, the same place she was off to herself.

His chin slowly drooped toward his chest and he started, sucking in a sharp breath and shaking his head to try to clear it of the cobwebs of impending sleep. It wasn't really that late, strictly speaking, but the past few days of detentions with Cypress had sapped his energy. Not to mention that once he made it to bed, he barely slept. He continuously found himself waking from dreams in the middle of the night, only to have them skitter away before he could grasp what he'd been dreaming about.

Jet pressed his palms into his eyes and took a deep breath, ending it off in a yawn. Opening his eyes, he shook his head again and looked around. He hadn't missed her, had he?

Sky's eyes skimmed the page, running over the words quickly in her head. As she walked, she quickly found herself running into something hard. Startled, her book fell to the floor and she stumbled back a few steps. Flustered, she reached down to retrieve the book.

"Blast it. I'm so sorry, I wasn't paying attention... and.... I didn't think people would be out here... and I didn't hurt you did I?" Finally looking up, her eyes landed on Jet. "Oh... it's you..."

He let out a short bark of laughter, he couldn't help himself.

"Yeah, just me," he said, stooping to help her a moment too late and standing back up awkwardly.

"Um..."

Jet stood there awkwardly. All of the things he was going to say were driven from his mind. His carefully practiced opening lines, wiped out and replaced with dumb blank space.

She raised an eyebrow at him as she tucked her book in her bag.

"Do you make a habit out of randomly standing in hallways alone at this time of day... or are you just trying out something new? And what's this... no pick up lines? Huh, you aren't ill are you?"

Shakes her head and begins walking again before she gives him a chance to answer any of the questions she just presented to him.

Jet scrubbed at the faint, bruise-like shadows beneath his eyes and followed after her.

"No, I mean... yeah, kind of? .. or.. no. I mean.. I was waiting for you."

The words slipped out as sleep deprivation got the  better of him and his jumbled mind worked over-time to right itself, unsuccessfully.

Sky stopped abruptly and turned to look back at him.

"Me? Why were you waiting for me?"

Looking at his face, she noticed he looked different. Tired. He had horrible bags under his eyes and her stomach did a flip. Detention. That had to be the reason behind it. The detention she had caused. She quickly wondered if that was why he was waiting on her. Did he want payback? An apology? What other reason could he possibly have for waiting for her?

He wanted to say 'I don't know. I have no freakin idea,' but that might come off a little rude. It was the truth though. He didn't know why he was waiting up to try to possibly catch a glimpse of some girl he'd spent all of one day with when he should be in his bed, drooling, and having his dorm mates write profanities on his face with permanent marker that he had to use a combination of spells, potions, and abrasive cleaning solvents to rub his skin raw in order to remove. Jerks.

"I don't really know," he muttered, the truth coming out anyway.

"I just wanted to say 'hi' I guess... so..." he rocked back on his heels, "hi."

Taking a breath he shook his head and turned on his heal, preparing to head back to his dorm and slam his head against the wall a few times.

Sky stared at him awkwardly as he replied he didn't know. How could a person not know why they were randomly standing in a hallway, waiting for god knows how long, to see another person that they had only ever talked to once. During her internal dialogue with herself she noticed him turn away.


"Hey, wait!" She stepped towards him, grabbing his hand. "It's good to see you again. How was.. um... detention?"

He's surprised when she grabs him, but doesn't let it show. Turning, he raises an eyebrow.

"How was detention? And you think my pickup lines are bad?" He smiles.

She instantly released his hand at his comment and glares.

"At least I can make out more than just..."

Mimics Jet's voice "Um... hi..."

Jet grinned at her impression of him.

"You owe me, you know."

Sky paled at his statement. Naturally, she knew that she owed him... he had kept her from getting in trouble. Not many people in other houses would have done that for a Slytherin, especially considering the consquences of detention with Cypress.

"Why didn't you rat me out? You could have easily done so and saved yourself." She shrugged, "What did you have in mind for repayment?"

He shrugged, "Cypress would've bagged me anyway, just for being in the room. No need for both of us to suffer. ... chicken," he muttered under his breath, shuddering.

"Hmm.. another night. Just the two of us."

She looked at him skeptically, "Well, regardless it was very nice of you. I appreciate it. Like I told you at the Charms tutoring, I cant really afford to get into anymore trouble."

Shifting her bag to her other arm she laughed a bit.

"You want to spend another night alone? With me? Why would you ever want to put yourself through that torture?"

"I'm a glutton for punishment," he smiled.

She shrugged at him, "Fine if that's what you want. Just pick a time and place."

"Tomorrow night, seven o'clock, meet me in the entrance hall," he smiled.

Nods. "Alright, I will be there. See you later, Puff."

With a smile she headed for the Slytherin Common Room.
