Plume's Delivery [open]

Dawn hurried up toward the Owlery, clutching a small parcel. She stepped into the tower, searching for her owl. "Plume! Where are you? Viens!" A screech owl fluttered down, holding out its leg obligingly. Patting Plume's feather's, Dawn began to tie the parcel onto his leg.

Nessa was oblivious to the girl's shouts, in her own absent-minded world as she gazed around in wonder at the owls flapping around above her head. She ran a hand through her light brown hair, hufflepuff robes lifting lightly behind her as she wandered aimlessly.

OOC: LUNA!! -cackles-

She continued talking to Plume as she tied the package to his leg. "La, ca va maintenant, non? Tu sait quoi faire. Vas-y." She looked up, seeing a Hufflepuff. "Oh...hello there."

The girl almost jumped, stuttering when she spoke, trying to compose herself. 'Oh! h-hey there!' she peered around swiftly, considering.
'I...I'm not in the way am i?'

ooc just noticed how Luna-ish my post was as well. o.o

She raised her eyebrows. "Of course you're not in the way. I was just noticing how interested you seemed in the Owlery. Most people just take it for granted."

She nodded, immediately reassured. 'Owls are beautiful creatures, and so observant too. I don't think I could take them for granted, they're animals as well.'

Nessa laughed at her own words. 'I'm sorry, I'm a bit of an animal lover.'

She smiled faintly. "Never be sorry about that, I feel the same way. Although I'm more interested in magical creatures, having never heard of them, you know." She laughed. "I don't even know your name. I'm Dawn, by the way."

She smiled warmly back. 'I don't get on so well with the unknown creatures, they always seem to want to bite me.' she laughed softly, extending her hand before retracting it, remembering not many people liked to shake hands.

'Nessa Helstrom, not that you would know of me...'

She grinned to herself. "Don't worry, I don't really know of anyone." She held up the index finger of her right hand, showing a tiny scar. "Unknown creatures often bite, but they stop once they know you. Or you feed them. Or both."

'As long as you don't become their food, i think you can get along well with them, but I am still more comfortable with the owls here.' she smiled again, taking the time to glance around the circular room.

'What do you usually do for fun then? I can't say I've spoken to many people.' she looked bashful for a moment, shy even.

She smiled, considering. "The lake is always nice. And Hogsmeade is worth a visit. And then there's the magic!" She laughed, spinning around with her arms wide open. "There's the fact that you're actually here, learning magic!"

Nessa wanted to join in, but knowing her clumsiness she'd probably end up falling over and looking like an idiot. Her grin was goofy and light-hearted. 'Yes! magic is amazing!'

'My mother finds it fascinating actually, she always wants me to owl her about what I learn, but I never get round to it.'

Her smile faded and her arms went back down to her sides. "I think you should send her something. She only wants to know how you're doing, after all."

'I guess you're right...' she sighed and reluctantly pulled out some parchment from her bag, using her quill to scribble quickly onto it.

Mum,
My magic has been slowly improving at Hogwarts. While my duelling is still not very good, at least I'm getting on better with the animals and herbology! when I come home for the break I will know more about the garden,

'Well, she'll probably find my study fascinating, even though divination is a snore fest.' she smirked as she attached a letter to a low flying owl, hoping it would find it's way to her family.

She smiled, still looking sad. "Thank you. I don't take Divination, myself. Decided on Ancient Runes instead. It seemed more...useful?"

Nessa studied the girl for a moment, politely putting her quill and parchment back into her bag, voice tinged with concern. 'Are you alright...?' she had spotted the downtrodden expression on Dawn's face.

She shrugged, trying to stay casual. "I guess. I just hope that you appreciate that you can send letters to your parents."

She suddenly realized how insensitive she'd been. 'Oh! I didn't know, I apologize...' she bit her lip, averting her gaze elsewhere.

She shook her head. "I just sent a parcel to my mother." She looked at Nessa, hoping to disprove what she may have been thinking.

Nessa nodded, feeling slightly reassured. 'I got the wrong idea, it happens a lot.' she took the girl's word for it, not wanting to pry.

'What sort of package?'

"Muggle money." she said shortly. "I got it exchanged in Hogsmeade."

Nessa smiled. 'So using muggle money doesn't bother you? Some people get...iffy about it.' she shrugged. 'I'm not sure why though.'

"My mother is a Muggle, Muggle money is all she can use." she said coolly. "So of course I am not 'iffy' about it."

'Mine too, and I'm glad.' She kept her smile warm and polite, picking at her fingernails absently.

'I know this is a forward question, but do you think...we could be friends?' she didn't let hope creep into her voice.
